For those settled in after the holidays, we have our accustomed treat for the remaining months of the opera season.
We start with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay opening the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts on Saturday, January 3, at 1.00pm (EST).
Readers already have their introduction to the opera in my post of November 19 (click on Recent Posts at right). If you want to know more, the synopsis of the opera is here.
Also — as noted near the end of the post — cinema presentations of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay will begin in late January (most theaters will present the opera on January 24). As you find your theater at https://www.metopera.org/season/in-cinemas/ (click the Find Your Cinema button), you will see the dates the theaters are presenting the transmission.
This performance from October 2, 2025, stars baritone Andrzej Filońcyk as the artist Joe Kavalier, who escapes from Nazi-occupied Prague with dreams of making enough money in New York City to rescue his family. Tenor Miles Mykkanen is Joe’s Brooklynite cousin, Sam Clay, who teams up with him to create a hit comic book series about a fascism-fighting superhero called The Escapist. And mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce is the artist and humanitarian Rosa Saks, who falls in love with Joe.
The acclaimed cast also features Edward Nelson, Lauren Snouffer, Craig Colclough, Ellie Dehn, Richard Croft, Eve Gigliotti, and Patrick Carfizzi. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
